Lisa Mayer has over 17 years experience writing corporate and business-to-business marketing communications. My strength is understanding how to create communications that inform, education, persuade and motivate customers.

I approach communication from the role of translator between the company and the customer. The process involves analyzing the business needs of the target audience (vis-à-vis decision making), putting myself in the receiver’s position to better understand how they are likely to “hear” information and translating the sender’s intent so its meaning is conveyed successfully.

A generalist, I believe a direct knowledge of an industry is not necessary to write effective copy. I have written marketing materials for the legal profession, engineering, architecture, technology, consumer packaged goods, education, work/life solution providers and finance. My liberal arts training emphasized absorbing a broad range of knowledge as well as the ability integrate and synthesize new material. An MBA provides the business context (language and situations) for developing and executing a communications strategy. Moreover, as a “translator”, the need to learn what is important from a customer’s point of view in order to explain the product or service allows me to discover benefits and advantages in what is for others familiar territory.
